The Student Festival of Digital Creativity is organised by the Office of Informatics School Counselors, under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs. It is an educational festival that enables students to create and present digital projects that they have developed in their school. It is an open event to society and aims to give students, teachers, parents and visitors the opportunity to take part in innovative educational and recreational activities in the field of Information Technology and Digital Technology. The 8th edition of the festival took place on 18-21 April, 2018, with 13 participating cities, namely, Agios Nikolaos, Agrinio, Heraklion, Ioannina, Kavala, Kalamata, Corfu, Larissa, Mytilene, Patra, Pyrgos, Trikala and Chania.
The teachers and students of 2nd Vocational Lyceum of Agrinio which participated in the local pilot phase of UMI-Sci-Ed, presented their UMI creations, projects and experiences in four different events of the festival.
On Wednesday, April 18, a workshop about UMI Technologies took place through presentations and hands-on activities with UMI technologies. The workshop enabled students and visitors to get in touch with the prospect of a UMIque career by understanding the technologies that are constantly flooding in the market. The workshop was implemented by Leonidas Papathanasiou and Angelos Titis, IT teachers of the 2nd Vocational Lyceum of Agrinio.
On Thursday, April 19, the pavilion of the 2nd Vocational Lyceum of Agrinio at the festival exhibition presented the digital creations of the students with UMI technologies. The pavilion area was visited by hundreds of visitors while the students, orchestrated by their teachers, switched their role from students to trainers, informing visitors about UMI Technologies.
On Friday 20 April, all the participated cities interconnected each other via a videoconference, where each school presented a representative project. The 2nd Vocational School of Agrinio, representing Agrinio city, presented UMI-Sci-Ed and the UMI projects that they have realised. During the presentation of the project, the School Counselor of Informatics and member of the CTI research team, Spyros Papadakis was connected via videoconference from the city of Patras and lit a lamp which was in the Vocational School in Agrinio city with his cell phone.
During the festival, a presentation of the UMI-Sci-Ed project was also realised, where students, parents and visitors of the festival were informed about the aim and activities of the UMI-Sci-Ed project.
At the end of the presentation, visitors had the time to ask questions about the project, while information material was shared.
