University of Pisa’s recognised European event featured also the UMI project this year the “BRIGHT- Night of Researchers”. This event, which is well-known across the European Countries, promoted by the European Commission in 300 cities of 24 countries, is aimed at spreading the scientific culture among youngsters, families, common people interested to the research advancements. Every year thousands of people attend this scientific initiative. On Friday 29th September, from 5 p.m. to late evening, the Italian partner’s the booth “Robot, new materials and new technologies for IoT” was very busy with attendees. A demonstration of Udoo-Neo kit and Lego Mindstorms Ev3 use for the didactical purpose took place. Beyond the demonstration, the goal of bringing to general public the Umi-Sci-Ed enthusiasm towards the usage of Ubiquitous Computing (UbiComp), Mobile Computing (MobiCom) and the Internet of Things (IoT) in a pervasive penetration of everyday life (e.g., Science Education, Entrepreneurial initiative).
On a higher level, the UMI project was also present at the International Conference: “New Perspective in Science Education”. In the International Conference in Florence methodology used for the pilots across the European Countries and the preliminary results of the piloting activities conducted with the teachers of five Italian upper secondary schools’ were discussed. Specifically, the data collected through the interviews and the focus groups concerned the teachers’ perception of the innovative pedagogical approach proposed in several pedagogical scenarios of Umi-Sci-Ed (i.e., social-constructionism) and the UMI technological tools used by the students of Higher Technical Institutes (ITIS) involved in Umi-Sci-Ed (within the “Computers and Telecommunications” and “Electronics and Robotics” curricula).
