The 21th Euromicro Conference on Digital System Design, Architectures, Methods, Tools was held between 29th and 31st August 2018 in Prague, Czech Republic. The Euromicro Conference on Digital System Design (DSD’18) addressed all aspects of embedded, pervasive and high- performance, digital and mixed HW/SW system engineering, covering the whole design trajectory from specification down to micro-architectures, digital circuits and VLSI implementations. It was a forum for researchers and engineers from academia and industry working on advanced investigations, developments and applications. The scientific program included special sessions and organized workshops.
DSD conference is sponsored by Euromicro an international scientific, engineering and educational organization dedicated to advancing the arts, sciences and applications of information technology and microelectronics.
Research Results Presentation
The paper with the latest research results of UMI-Sci-Ed project, entitled “Design and Implementation of a Privacy Framework, for the Internet of Things (IoT)”, was authored by P. Panagiotou, N. Sklavos and I. D. Zaharakis. It was included in the conference scientific program as a part of a Special Session, entitled “EPDSD: European Projects in Digital System Design”.
The aim of the Special Session was to bring together the researchers of major just started, ongoing or recently finished European Projects of H2020, ECSEL, FP7, Artemis, Eniac, Medea+, etc. in the (Embedded) Digital System Design Area, to widely disseminate the awareness and information on the projects, as well as, to create a forum for exchange of ideas, advanced discussion and cross-project collaboration.
Detailed information about the latest research results, project goals, partners, division of work and plans was shared by the presenter Nicolas Sklavos.

Workshop on Machine Learning Driven Technologies and Architectures for Intelligent Internet of Things (ML-IoT’18)
UMI-Sci-Ed project also played a role among workshops, that organized in conjunction to the main DSD conference.
Angeliki Kalapodi, Nicolas Sklavos, I. D. Zaharakis and Achilles Kameas, authored the work entitled “A Safe Traffic Network Design and Architecture, in the Context of IoT”, which presented as a part of Euromicro Workshop on Machine Learning Driven Technologies and Architectures for Intelligent Internet of Things (ML-IoT’18).
Today’s life has been simplified by the advent of IoT technology. Smart Homes and Smart Cities tend to be the most frequent subject of study, on this field of science. This work was concentrated on the design and implementation of an IoT network, over smart roads. Car accidents’ rate gets higher over the years. A smart road network might offer very useful data for the construction of a real-time accident and traffic preventer. The architecture, security and privacy preservation of the network were highlighted. Cryptography could be the tool to the creation of a safe and useful IoT application. Safe and effective smart networks’ research and development may simplify daily life and eliminate fundamental issues. All these solutions may be applied to the human society, as very useful and trustworthy approaches.
